"In ihrer befremdenden Schönheit faszinieren Claudia Fährenkempers Mikrofotografien und irritieren zugleich. Die Käferköpfe, Amphibienlarven, Pflanzensamen und Kristalle rufen Formassoziationen zwischen der Welt des Makrokosmos und der für das bloße Auge unsichtbaren Welt des Mikrokosmos hervor. Man meint, Portraits von gleichsam anthropomorpher Struktur, Landschaften oder Bühnenarchitekturen vor sich zu haben. Die durch die Technik des Rasterelektronenmikroskops gesteigerte, fast haptische Präsenz der Oberflächenreliefs wird zum sinnlichen Erlebnis organischer oder anorganischer Lebensräume und zur plastischen Erfahrung abstrakter Bildräume. Mit ihrer "fotoskulpturalen" Arbeit bezieht Fährenkemper eine Position zwischen Ästhetik und Wissenschaft, die als zeitgemäße Erschließung unserer heutigen Welt erscheint. "The astonishing beauty of Claudia Fährenkemper’s photomicrographs fascinates and disturbs simultaneously. Their portrayal of beetles’ heads, amphibian larvae, plant seeds and crystals evokes form associations between the world of the macrocosm and the world of the microcosm invisible to the naked eye. We appear to be looking at portraits of anthropomorphic structure, landscape or stage architecture. The almost tangible immediacy of the texture of surfaces, enhanced by the technology of the scanning electron microscope, provides a sensual experience of organic or inorganic habitats and a plastic view of abstract image spaces. In her „photo-sculptural“ work Fährenkemper assumes a position between esthetics and science that might be termed a modern exploration of today’s world. Her documentary-conceptual approach, which she owes to Bernd and Hilla Becher, and the „magical realism“ of her images are in the tradition of the photography of the New Objectivity (…)" |
